Let’s be real….everyone loves the fantasy of being the forever bachelor expat Latam…You get sunshine, cheap rent, younger women, and nightlife where you’re the foreigner that gets all the attention. For a lot of guys, I think it feels like a life hack. While your buddies back home are getting fat, stressed, and locked down with kids, you’re still out dating 22 year olds in Medellín or Mexico City having the time of your life.
But then comes the question: at what age does this lifestyle stop working?
Back home, people love to say “mid 30s is too old to still be playing the field.” Western culture, especially in the U.S. has this built in judgment that once you cross 30, you should be “settled.” Men who don’t fit the mold get labeled as immature or “lost.”
Latin America doesn’t work like that. Here, it’s not unheard of to see men well into their 40s still out, still dating younger women, and still active in social circles whether they are local or foreign as long as they’re fit, healthy, and bring more to the table than just showing up.
In fact, younger women often view older men as more stable and attractive.
So the real question isn’t can you keep the player life going? It’s should you? And if so, how do you do it without turning into the cliché the sad older guy clinging to a lifestyle that no longer fits him?
