Hey! New-time sub, and was wondering why there aren't any "in-between" prices in CDMX when comparing Facebook and Airbnb. Already seeing FB posts about scams. Is going through Airbnb really the only way I can have some peace of mind knowing I have a place before moving to the city? Or is there another avenue I can do in order to secure a nice apartment before?
Thanks for the quick reply! For a 1-bed/2-bed, I'm seeing roughly $1,150-$1,400+ on Airbnb. On FB, I've seen those, even inside the bubble around $700-$900, which honestly would be ideal. The 2-beds are outside the bubble in this price range, but I've found some nice 1bdrms in that range.
I know that's not much of an in-between (ideally, I want $900-$1,100), but given that, how much weight do you give to each option going through FB vs an agency vs airbnb? I've contacted an agency to also help me, which might be a nice middleground. Basically, I want to secure an apartment (ideally) before I get there, whether I pay someone to visit it, or just go through Airbnb - 3-6months is the timeframe I'm looking at.
Not sure if relevant;: I've been living in Spain the past 1.5 years taking Spanish classes
There’s nothing wrong with Facebook. There really constant scams like you would assume. But this is a massively populated city, so it would often be hard to remotely view and rent an apartment.
Even locals might spend months trying to find a new apartment with the signing process here. If you take too long. Someone with money at that moment will get it.
Even if a place was 100% legit. I would send someone to hold an apartment I’ve never met before.

What do you think an in between price should be? We might have different definitions?
