Gym culture in Mexico honestly isn’t great. At all. Gyms are oddly expensive compared to America. If you actually want to meet decent people — the people with money, influence, and some amount of status…you’ll find them where they spend their real time every week: the gym.
And I don’t mean the crowded Smartfit down the street. I’m talking about the higher end gyms of the city. If you pick a bad gym, you get people with bad gym etiquette. The cost of gyms in Mexico essentially weed out the lower class people.
So higher end gyms end up being more than fitness centers. In a way they tell you who belongs where in the city’s social hierarchy.
