This will be the first of many Q&A post. I intend to do this at least every month.
Read through, Enjoy, Leave a comment with your questions for the next one.
Q0: I recently broke up with my girlfriend of 7 years. I have been following you for quite some time and am interested in going to LatAm. I’m open to any advice you can give me
A0:The first think I would suggest is going through the Dating Section of my substack.
There are multiple articles. One that stands out is this one
I would definitely suggest going to LatAm just to clear your head and have some fun. But there are a lot of points that you should understand if you assume you’ll either rebound with a bunch of new women or find a new long-term girlfriend.
Q1: I've noticed that Mexican women maintain a sense of respect even in revealing attire, while posts of Colombian and Brazilian women dressed provocatively often convey a different impression. Could cultural influences play a role in shaping these perceptions? Your thoughts?
A1: The majority of Latin America was founded as a conservative catholic land. But yes, Mexicans still remain more conservative than Colombia and Brazil. Look at the stats, Brazil and Colombia are major players in the plastic surgery markets. Mexicans ( especially in Mexico city, still wear pants year round. Mexico simply doesn’t “sell sex” the way that the other 2 countries do. You’ll still find women dressing provacatily here, but much less thatnthe other 2
Q2: I’ve been following you work on X for some time, great insights. Do you know of any good options for a 2-3 week apartment rental in Mexico City outside of the typical over priced platforms? Willing to pay a finder fee in crypto
A2: I don’t provide any specific specialized service for getting people apartments. I do have a list of solid realtors that I would talk about during a 1:1 consulting call though.
The best is to follow the advice in this article, learn to negotiate and possible find and Airbnb that’s down to accept cash, or visit some of the forums and whatsapp groups that arent trying to scam foreigners. One controversial tip, is that if you find something cheap, and can lock in a 6-12 month lease, take it. If you end up not staying the full time, the price is hopefully cheap enough that you don’t even care to lose your deposit. Don’t feel bad for the landlord, its typically easy for them to find a replacement tenant.
*One caveat is that many landlord don’t want to accept longer term leases for non residents.
But through a consulting call, I can also link you to my personal legal an accounting side which can expedite your getting legal residency.
Q3: Best countries for a new traveler/expat to visit to get their feet wet (I know some countries are more difficult than others unless your completely fluent in the language)
A3: When considering destinations in Latin America for learning Spanish, Mexico stands out as a top choice. Not only because I'm here, but because I genuinely believe it's an excellent place for language learning. Mexicans and Colombians are often considered among the easiest people to learn Spanish from due to their clear pronunciation and relatively neutral accents. Additionally, there's a higher level of English fluency in Mexico compared to some other Latin American countries, partly due to its proximity to the United States.
Another reason I recommend Mexico is that it offers a variety of destinations, and many of them are less known for the kind of "degenerate" experiences that some tourists might encounter in certain Colombian cities. While exploring and pushing your boundaries can be exciting, Mexico provides a more balanced and safer environment for language learners.
Mexico's proximity to the United States is also an advantage. If you decide that living or learning here isn't for you, it's relatively easy to return to the States. Plus, with the growth of remote work opportunities, you can continue your business or work remotely while in Mexico.
Moreover, Mexico is a vast and diverse country with a rich cultural heritage. It offers a wide range of activities and sights to explore, making it an ideal destination for touring and immersing yourself in the language.
If you're looking beyond Latin America, Germany is a noteworthy choice. Many Germans speak English fluently, and you'll find that a lot of signs are in English as well. Germany's efficient and well-connected transportation system makes it easy to travel within the country and use it as a hub for exploring the rest of Europe. This makes it a great option for those looking to broaden their horizons while having the convenience of a familiar language.
Q4. Tips on building a strong social circle in a new country and where you would begin
A4: I’ve written two articles on that below
Q5. What is the most livable city in Mexico in your opinion in terms of (Local culture/women/infrastructure)
A6: Theres really no clear answer. While I personally hate Riviera Maya ( Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum) Those cities may be the most livable. Large expat populations, high english competency ( everything is revolved around tourism) Being beach towns, you’re going to have a lot of women both Mexican and foreign that frequent that region. Lots of people start going there on vacation and then end up moving their. Outside of the tourist zone, prices get cheaper, but you still have access to all the night and day life amenities.
From there, I would probably say Mexico City. Essentially the NYC of Latin America - I won’t elaborate here, because of written a guide. But Mexico city has a barrier of entry where if you are on a strict budget, some of the more popular areas have become more expensive. Mexico city women are desperate for foreigner and its not a beach party city, so people are more conservative. If you have an intent on building a social circles, you can quickly set yourself apart in the city because there aren’t as many foreigners that try to “integrate”
Q6. How you learned a new language and how we could do the same
A6: I move to Mexico City knowing ZERO Spanish. I got interested in the TV show La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) ( Spain Spanish) It actually helped me from the start because there are like 6 seasons, you can watch them on Netflix, the dialogue and stories flow together and it made it easy to leave on in the background even if it wasn’t actively watching.
From there I got a Spanish teacher( Check article for my recommendations) & continue to follow the substack, as I will be partnering with a Spanish Teaching program soon.
I took private 1:1 Lessons for about a year. It started 2 times a week and eventually became 3. I took hour long classes in between my lunch breaks and at the end of the day.
Eventually I enrolled in a intensive course at Mexico’s top university. It was a 6 week course, 5 days a week. Before entering the course I was already at basic fluency B2.
In between that.. My secret would be dating and building a social circle.
Instead of hanging out with a bunch of expats, I made it a point to make spanish speaking friends, go to local events and interact. I consider myself an introvert ( with extrovert tendencies) so I really tried to explore when I could.
Mexican women are great, and a large city almost made dating easier. After you translate the same conversations multiple times in Google Translate, you start to memorize and expand on your text. Going on multiple dates a week also means there’s plenty of time to practice. I heavily leveraged Instagram to find out where the top women in the city were which also gave me a bigger push to learn the language
Q7: I'm going to mexico City this weekend, you got any recs for food and stuff around el zocalo? going with fam so not gonna be a perro for those recs.
A7:
Above, I already posted my guide to Mexico City. I recently wrote another entry with a could of my must hit areas.
**The Mexico City Guide is long, I tried to hit as many subjects as possible. I think some people may have missed it, but towards the bottom I put a bunch of google maps links. I have saved over 250 locations for dinning, nightlife, sights etc. Its very hard to give recommendations of Mexico city because everyone has their own interest and taste. Instead I let people explore the maps, give me feedback and then I might be able to be more specific from there
Q8: Im currently following advice from your Instagram guides on how to build followers. I am currrently targeting women hat follow clothing and fashion pages. Do you think its a good audience.
A8: I personally have not tried that specifically, so I am interesting in your result. In my head, I think its a solid niche. It would also depend if your profile follows into that niche. Do you also dress well? If you’re interested in women that have a strong interest in fashion. They will likely be interested in men that also have strong or similar fashion senses. I personally don’t look for women based on brands, but instead based on venues. I’ll leave the answer at that and let people explore the guides themselves
Q9: Is there a recommended limit for daily follow requests on Instagram? I'm worried about seeming like a bot and potentially getting shadowbanned or suspended, even if I'm doing it manually.
A9: Instagram's policies change regularly, but in general, if you reach the follow limit, Instagram will notify you that you can't follow or like any more profiles for a certain period. Hitting this limit typically won't lead to suspension or shadowbanning (unless you have a brand new account). If your account has been active for a while, you should be okay as long as you continue to perform actions manually. However, if you attempt to use a third-party app for automation, there's a high chance you'll be at least temporarily suspended.
Q10: What is your advice for someone just starting out in the sale world?
A10:
Consume all the knowledge you can and engage with everyone: While sales is typically an individual endeavor, surprisingly, very few people will withhold information. I was amazed by how many salespeople allowed me to observe their calls and learn from them. As time went on, even more experienced salespeople began seeking insights from me, as some were too proud to ask the same questions.
Adapt your style to suit yourself: Although you can learn from top salespeople, their methods won't always work for you. One of my colleagues had been in sales since the early days of computers, sharing tales of personally checking warehouses for available servers as customers placed catalog orders. My experience was different, focusing on leveraging technology to encourage customer innovation. Despite the significant experience gap, there were quarters where I outperformed him because I took his techniques and adapted them to my strengths.
Dedicate time to studying off the clock: When I first entered the sales world, some coworkers found me a bit reserved. I wasn't keen on going out for drinks or taking extended lunch breaks. Instead, I stayed in the office, dedicating myself to studying for required certifications, reviewing playbooks, and delving into technical information. I approached the job much like preparing for a military fitness test. Sure, you can participate in the morning run with everyone else, but if you aim for a top score, you'll need to put in extra effort outside of work hours. Just as passing a fitness test secures your military role, passing that certification often leads to hitting management-set objectives, sometimes resulting in bonuses.
That's it for now. There were a couple more questions I didn't address, mainly because I didn't want to make this too long. I'll respond to those questions directly and possibly include them in future Q&A sessions. I plan to do one of these every month, but it might happen more frequently.
